We are introducing an exciting, additional ’Libre’ format to our line-up of race series this year.
Equipe Libre will be open to any pre 1966 race car under FiA Appendix K regulations running on Dunlop Historic tyres. FiA papers are welcome but not demanded.
The new race format offers owners of a wider variety of pre-1966 cars the opportunity to enjoy the close racing and paddock camaraderie that Equipe is known for. Eligible cars range from Cobras to Mini Coopers – with Lotus Elan, Ginetta, Mustang and Cortina and many others also permitted.
The new race will span the gap between Equipe GTS for smaller engine cars and Equipe Pre ’63 by adding a wide range of new cars. This incredible mix of cars created fantastic racing throughout the field at the Equipe Donington Relay weekend, with many Equipe drivers waxing lyrical afterwards about competing with such a spectacular mix of classic machines.
The first Equipe Libre race will be at Snetterton on September 5th this year followed at Silverstone on October 3rd. The format includes a 20-minute qualifying session and the ever-popular 40-minute Pit Stop race. Equipe Libre will also be open to any of our current drivers wanting an additional race at an Equipe meeting
Donington surprised us with the feedback to include a wider set of eligible cars in our normal club events, Libre will enable us to include so much more variety without compromising the core values of Equipe.
The name ‘Libre’ comes from period racing where many organisers created grids to encompass a wide range of available categories and used the Libre title. We are really excited to bring it back!
